ckck:
Behold my new cheap-o laptop stand.
I’ve been looking at getting something to prop up my laptop from the desk for better airflow and better typing angle, but everything I’ve found has been bulky, tacky or just not for my purposes. It really does seem like an untapped market for those who use Mac and like a bit of style and design (Seriously, why hasn’t anyone made a laptop stand in the same style as Apple’s wireless keyboard? Just make it as wide and deep as the laptop base, a bit thinner and replace the keys with a grid of holes. Simple and elegant).
While searching I came across this solution, which seemed like a clever idea even though the execution is poor. It did make me think that maybe I could use something else but similar along those lines though, and after a quick search on IKEA’s website, I found this bamboo place mat. I went and bought one yesterday (the luxury of living 10 minutes away from an IKEA store), and it actually works really well. It’s very sturdy, and the bamboo doesn’t seem affected by the heat either. Sure, it’s not the most elegant solution by any stretch of the imagination, but for 70 cents I really can’t complain, especially when the only laptop stand out there that gave me any wanton desires costs a ridiculous $80.
