  2. Hey boys and girls! I created a site dedicated to photos of people and their dogs. It’s called Yuppies & Puppies. I encourage you to submit awesome photos of you and your furry friends.

Why did I create such a site? That question has two answers. a: To shed light on the misconception that “Jer hates dogs”. b: Everyone and their dog has a picture of themselves with their dog. Why not have a place to share them.

Reblog, like, share and recommend till your heart’s content. Woof.

Shout-out to Paul Straw for the Tumblr theme I used to make this magic happen.

  3. Brothers @ryanwatt and @jeremywatt have joined forces to launch TheTickr.com — A sports blog that falls somewhere in between the interweb triangle that is SI.com, Deadspin.com and the soon to be TMZSports.com.

When asked their rationale behind such a project, Ryan responded, “If you can’t be a professional athlete you might as well blog like one.” Jeremy added “We like sportz and we don’t care who knows.”TheTickr.com | @thetickr on Twitter

  4. I’m doing my best to cross off items from my little project to-do list. Last week BarackObamic.com, this week 140w.com.

140w.com is simple one page site that streams the Twitter updates of my brother and myself. From the site:

140w is a place where the Twitter feeds of brothers, Ryan Watt and Jeremy Watt, come and hang out. It’s nothing too too exciting but at the same time they thought it would be pretty fly if such place existed.

  5. The Next Step

Most of the items I post to this site fall under the category, ‘things I like or find interesting’. The quote above and below falls under that same category but worthy of an explanation.

I think the next step for graphic designers is to figure out how to meaningfully generate their own content…whether it’s writing or whether it’s music or film or whatever, I think it’s the natural growth, rather than just strictly working for a client all the time. – Chip Kidd

It describes, in perfect form, where I aspire to be as designer. A place free of deadlines, clients and other people’s visions painted with my brush. In one sentence Mr. Kidd removed the gray cloud that has been hovering over my thoughts. I now know what I always knew but didn’t know how to say – “meaningfully generate their own content” or “meaningfully generate my own content” – This is my goal.

Over the years I have thought up, wrote out and designed many meaningful ideas, none of which have ever left the pages of my Moleskine (except for maybe that T-shirt company I started). I may have shared them with family or friends but I never put in the effort to make any of them a reality. The only thing I put any serious effort into is jeremywatt.com. Which is why I think this site is constantly changing and ever-evolving, it’s the only thing I have to call my own.

Over the next year I will try to take the next step that Chip Kidd is referring to. I have a few personal projects that are on the horizon. Some of which are just fun creative outlets, others that I hope will develop into something special. I’ll share with you along the way.
