We’ll still flying coach…

Two Year Anniversary Humblebrag
Around two years ago, Ryan and I started this blog with the simple goal of channelling our lifetime passion for sports. After two weeks we grew our followers to double digits. The audience was small but it was an audience and it kept us going. Now, two days shy of our two year anniversary, we’re creeping on 10,000 followers! *Tebowing with thanks*.

We jumped into the sports media game (and Tumblr) unaware that the industry was changing. With the help of Twitter and Tumblr, independant sports publishers are making a name for themselves. Humbly, that’s what we’re trying to do with The Tickr and we have a few things in the pipeline that we hope will do just that.

With the help of our new recruit, Steven LeBron, we’re going to start creating original sports content. It all starts tomorrow with a new feature we’re calling 3 in the Key. On a weekly basis, Steven LeBron will focus on three relevant basketball plot lines and package it all up in one post worth pondering. From there we plan on building out more, yet to be determined, original content features — thoughts, viewpoints and opinions you won’t find anywhere else but here at The Tickr.

We’ve come a long way since January 4th, 2010 but we have an even longer way to go. Our vision for 2012 and beyond is strong and we look forward to rolling it out to you. Thank you for making our humble sports blog mean a little something. We’re still flying coach but we’re sitting next to cute blondes who read Those Guys Have All The Fun.

Attention Media Outlets, Sports Networks, Advertising Agencies, Tumblr, Foursquare (why not), Richard Branson and/or other wealthy billionaires/millionaires!

Consider this TheTickr.com’s REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP for all you industry types)! Our team (brothers, Ryan Watt and Jeremy Watt) are ready and willing to be sent to London to cover the 2012 Summer Olympics online, like no one else can!

What we Need

Some sort of crazy V.I.P. access to the London 2012 Olympics.
Financial coverage of flights, accommodation and food (nothing fancy, we’re pretty resourceful).
Financial coverage of our iPhone roaming charges.
An online platform to share all our wonderful coverage (this isn’t a must, but probably to your advantage).
What you get in Return
Real-time coverage of the events of your choosing! We’re not just talking about live tweets and photo posts! Picture if you will, an animated GIF of a speed walker crossing the finish line to capture gold, with Kate Middleton in the background grocery shopping.
A daily video update from TheTickr team! None of this talking head nonsense. We’ll dig deep to bring you the viral news the internet wants to share. Stuff like: What’s the true story behind the London 2012 logo? and How hot is that hot tub that the divers hang out in?
A complete branding/sponsor package for whatever you want! We’ll skin TheTickr.com and every olympic post with your brand — think POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold but not in a way that’s annoying to our faithful Tumblr followers.
Last but not least, we’ll do whatever you want us to do (just no streaking).
Why are you Doing This?
Simple really. We’re olympic fanatics, plus we lived in London for a year and thought this would be an epic way to return to the city. If you can’t be an olympic athlete, you might as well see if someone will send you to the olympics to cover it.

Tumblr Friends we Need your Help!
We’d be stupid to think we couldn’t do this without your help and you’d be stupid to think that this wouldn’t be awesome to follow online. Soooo, we’re asking you to dig deep and like/reblog the crap out of this post. Together we can make this happen and if it doesn’t happen we’ll all just high-five over how awesome the above animated GIF is!

The man (@ryanwatt) on left turns 32 today. I believe he was 8 in this picture. I’m on the right. This is the day we thought of TheTickr.com, hence our happiness.

P.S. I’m not an Oilers fan anymore, I was riding the Gretzky bandwagon.

It’s Tumblr Tuesday!

staff:

This ever happen to you? I dreamt in Tumblr last night.

I walked around the city, covered in little hearts and reblog buttons. I showed my appreciation for a beautiful sunset by reaching out and poking its like button. I saw some delicious tacos, hit reblog, and had some of my very own. This was a world I could live in.

Fast-forward to this morning: I was tired, disheveled, and there was a really pretty girl on the subway. To show my appreciation, I went to push her like button. Didn’t work. Hit it again. Nothing. I tried and tried, but nothing was working right.

Long story short, now I’m in jail. I used my phone call to select today’s five picks:

Gödel, Escher, Bach, Tumblr
GEBT is a book group dedicated to reading one chapter a week of Douglas Hofstadter’s 1979 masterpiece book about artificial intelligence, mathematics, consciousness, puzzles, music, and language. I know what three of those are!

Growing up Heroes
I thought this was going to be something like a teenage Clark Kent blogging about how horrible puberty is, but Growing up Heroes is in fact much cuter and much less annoying than that.

The Butter Room
The Butter Room is built to spread a passion for live music. This ten-person group posts a ton of great content, including reviews, daily features, interviews with musicians, photos from the road, and of course, some music.

The Tickr
The Tickr covers the culture of professional sports fandom. Less about the scores than the athletes themselves, this Tumblr blog focuses on the sights and sounds that make it fun to be a sports fan. Don’t miss their guide to throwing a Super Bowl party.

Fuck Yeah Dioramas!
While it’s true that the whole “Fuck Yeah” thing might be getting old, I can’t just sit by and let something as awesome as a bunch of dioramas all gathered together go unnoticed. It’s time to take a stand! Say it with me: Fuck Yeah Dioramas!

Who do you nominate for the next episode of Tumblr Tuesday?

Tumblr writes up The Tickr. Amazing.
